Obrirem el congrés amb una breu introducció a la fotònica i a l’ICFO, seguida per projectes de recerca de l’ICFO explicats en primera persona per qui hi treballa.

Aquesta secció tindrà l’estructura d’una típica sessió de pòsters d’un congrés científic. Es presentaran tots els projectes al mateix temps: els assistents podran descobrir els diferents projectes i fer preguntes als autors en petits grups de conversa.

Carlos Gas Ferrer

Carlos Gas va néixer a Alacant. Va estudiar Física i Matemàtiques a la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona i, en acabar, va fer un Màster en Fotònica a la Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Actualment està en el seu primer any de doctorat a l’ICFO, al grup de gasos quàntics ultrafreds on fa simulació quàntica amb àtoms a molt baixes temperatures. 

María Marsal

María Marsal és llicenciada en Biologia per la UB. Es va doctorar en Biologia del Desenvolupament al Departament de Genètica de la UB. En el període postdoctoral ha combinat la seva recerca en Biologia amb l’ús de microscòpia òptica (CSIC i ICFO). És part de l’equip responsable de la microscòpia òptica de super resolució i del laboratori de Biologia a l’ICFO. 

Valentina Gacha

Valentina Gacha va néixer a Bogotà, Colòmbia. Es va graduar com a Enginyera Química a la Universitat dels Andes. Més tard, la seva passió per entendre millor el món dels materials la va portar al Brasil on va fer un màster en Ciència i Enginyeria de Materials. Fa dos anys va començar el seu doctorat a ICFO, al grup de nanoestructures fotovoltaiques, on està estudiant la configuració de diferents materials, per capturar l’energia del sol i així generar diferents combustibles solars.

"UPSIDE DOWN" - Our handmade dark room

Our objective is to build a dark room with accessible materials to put into practice the use of a converging lens and to study the physical foundation behind it. We have studied the laws of optics, the nature of light and the principles that govern it, such as reflection and refraction of light.

In this project we have set ourselves the objective of building a hologram. That is why we have been studying the nature of light and the physical principles that govern it. In our case, the hologram we have constructed is based on the phenomena of reflection and refraction.

Our project is about finding the speed of light in ethanol by first setting up an experiment to find the alcohol’s refractive index n. This index is to be  calculated applying the focal lens value obtained in the experiment in the lens-maker formula. Vintage Optics kit by Enosa was used to set up the experiment.

Effects of drought on chlorophyll fluorescence photosynthetic parameters, quantum yield and efficiency, and chlorophyll content were studied on 3 species of the Lamiaceae family for 13 days. Drought caused a loss in chlorophyll content, quantum yield, and an increase in photosynthetic efficiency.

Replicating Rømer's experiment

The effect of wavelength on solar cell current output and methods to increase the absorption of light
