Abriremos el congreso con una breve introducción a la fotónica y a ICFO, seguida por proyectos de investigación del ICFO contados en primera persona por quien trabaja en ellos.
 
11:00 – 12:45: Presentaciones de los proyectos
Esta sección tendrá la estructura de una típica sesión de pósteres de un congreso científico. Se presentaran todos los proyectos al mismo tiempo: los asistentes podrán descubrir los diferentes proyectos y hacer preguntas a los autores en pequeño grupos de conversación.

Carlos Gas Ferrer

Carlos Gas nació en Alicante. Estudió Física y Matemáticas en la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona y, al acabar, hizo un Máster en Fotónica en la Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Actualmente está en su primer año de doctorado en el ICFO, en el grupo de gases cuánticos ultrafríos dónde realiza simulación cuántica con átomos a muy bajas temperaturas. 

María Marsal

María Marsal es licenciada en Biología por la UB. Hizo el doctorado en Biología del Desarrollo en el Departamento de Genética de la UB. En su periodo post-doctoral ha combinado su investigación en Biología con el uso de microscopía óptica (CSIC e ICFO). Es parte del equipo responsable de la microscopía óptica de super resolución y del laboratorio de Biología en ICFO.  

Valentina Gacha

Valentina Gacha nació en Bogotá, Colombia. Se graduó como Ingeniera Química en la Universidad de los Andes. Más tarde, su pasión por entender mejor el mundo de los materiales la llevó a Brasil donde hizo un master en Ciencia e Ingeniería de Materiales. Hace dos años comenzó su doctorado en ICFO, en el grupo de nanoestructuras fotovoltaicas, donde está estudiando la configuración de diferentes materiales, para capturar la energía del sol y así generar diferentes combustibles solares.

Our objective is to build a dark room with accessible materials to put into practice the use of a converging lens and to study the physical foundation behind it. We have studied the laws of optics, the nature of light and the principles that govern it, such as reflection and refraction of light.

In this project we have set ourselves the objective of building a hologram. That is why we have been studying the nature of light and the physical principles that govern it. In our case, the hologram we have constructed is based on the phenomena of reflection and refraction.

Our project is about finding the speed of light in ethanol by first setting up an experiment to find the alcohol’s refractive index n. This index is to be  calculated applying the focal lens value obtained in the experiment in the lens-maker formula. Vintage Optics kit by Enosa was used to set up the experiment.

Effects of drought on chlorophyll fluorescence photosynthetic parameters, quantum yield and efficiency, and chlorophyll content were studied on 3 species of the Lamiaceae family for 13 days. Drought caused a loss in chlorophyll content, quantum yield, and an increase in photosynthetic efficiency.

Replicating Rømer's experiment
